Doyle's Bridge, Ireland

John Tinnelly & Sons Ltd were appointed by SIAC Willis JV to demolish three adjoining bridge units that span over the Dublin Galway railway line in Athlone. These bridges were on the old N6 road between Ballinasloe and Athlone. This road is now redundant as the road way that was previously supported by the bridges has been replaced with a new motorway bypass.

The three “side by side” bridge units were constructed at different periods. The oldest bridge is a masonry arch bridge which was constructed in the 19th century this is now the now the middle section, A concrete bridge was built on it’s northern side (towards Galway) in the 1960’s, along with a further concrete bridge built on it’s southern side (towards Athlone/Dublin) in the 1990’s.
